What’s my interest in all this?
In 2015, I moved to the Steele Creek area from east Charlotte. My commute would take me past 7001 S Tryon St and I always wondered what the story was with that property. One evening, I saw that the Steele Creek neighborhood association was having an informal gathering to discuss the history of Steele Creek. I learned about the area and a enough about the McDowell house that it sparked my curiosity. Over the next few weeks, I went back to school on the American Revolution, searching for any information that corroborated the story of McDowell’s ride.
I love the story of what took place and I’d hate to see it lost again to history. My ultimate objective would be to see the original house preserved and turned into a museum and for people to learn the story of what happened on that October night in 1780.
As the Broker in Charge and Owner of Jonathan and Associates Inc, I have no connection or professional interest in the redevelopment, purchase or sale of this property. The information expressed here is my own as a concerned citizen. I respect the developers and builders efforts to create affordable housing as there are very few affordable options in Charlotte.
